Women in Media Australia has brought the Relaunch project back for 2023 in partnership with Google News Initiative.

The program is an exclusive series of workshops, mentoring sessions and online training, designed to equip and upskill women in media who are returning to the workforce after taking time off from their careers.

Successful applicants for the stimulus project will receive:

  • 10 specialized and intensive six-month virtual workshops focusing on leadership, media industry directions, new technologies and work/life balance

  • Help build your brand

  • A Starter Pack for the Recovery Project, welcoming and inducting you into the program

  • An invitation to the launch event to announce the 2023 cohort

  • A ticket to the National Women in Media Conference in 2023 [if COVID-19 allows] which includes two days of hearing from industry leaders, attending workshops and enjoying valuable networking opportunities

  • One-on-one mentoring with an industry professional

  • Be paired up with another Relaunch Project member, helping to support and build a connection as you navigate the program and mentoring sessions

Women in Media Co-Chair Kathy McLeish said, “We are bringing together and supporting women at a similar time in their lives; harness their thirst for learning and desire to re-engage while understanding the pressures and juggles of life and career.

“Our goal is to challenge the status quo and improve diversity, equality and inclusion in the media industry.”

Rebecca McLaren, a participant in the 2022 Relaunch Project, said: “I doubt there is enough acknowledgment in the world to express how this project was exactly what I needed and helped me so much.”

2022 entrant Sally Dillon said: “It has been very helpful to identify my strengths, think about how I could use them to re-enter the workplace, boost my career and learn practical skills that I can use when I recover in the workplace.”

Uma Patel of Google News Initiative described the partnership with Women in Media as “really a unique and special opportunity.

“The Google News Initiative works alongside the media industry to create a more sustainable, diverse and innovative news ecosystem.

“By supporting Project Relaunch, GNI is helping to build a resilient future for news in Australia.”

Women in Media Co-Chair Cath Webber said, “We are thrilled with feedback from participants that they have grown personally and professionally.

“They told us that the program helped them identify their strengths, that they learned a lot about themselves, developed new skills and that the program improved their career prospects.”

Recovery Project 2022 manager Michelle Francis said it was “phenomenal to be part of creating a much-needed program for women”.

“And seeing how it really benefited and made a difference for the 2022 cohort has been incredibly rewarding,” she said.

“I’m really looking forward to meeting next year’s cohort and seeing the impact the Relaunch Project can really have in helping women relaunch their careers.”
